PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Wow...what a year we had! It's come and gone. I want to thank everyone for such a successful year. It took team effort, and we have a great team! I'm going to miss being at the podium each week, as I truly enjoyed this time. Thank you for giving me the privilege of being your President for 2010-2011. I'm looking forward to a great year with Jim Cady as President. Give him all the help and support you gave me!
Yours in Rotary,
Diane

DIANE’S DEBUNKING; NEXT COMES DETOXING
Reports from members about the Diane’s Debunking Party on June 24 at The Summit indicate that the frolickingly frivolous festivities were FANTASTIC! On Tuesday KUD0S were abundantly handed-out to party planners/organizers Jim White and Lynn Peterson and to celebrity host Ron Kirsh who “downright outdone hisself” this year by devising the Rotarian Lovebirds Game (fashioned in a Newlyweds Game format) starring Diane and Dave Cabral, Donna and Ken Coonrad, Judith and Dennis Filangeri, Edmee and Cliff Marcek, and Lynn and Richard Peterson.
Lovebirds Edmee and Cliff were victorious!!! Congratulations! Is it true that pivotal points earned in the game came after suave, handsome game-show host Kirsh queried “what is the most annoying act your husband commits?” The Marceks then revealed that SHE who smelt it knows HE who dealt it! That HE who supplied it often denied it! That HE who disputed is HE who tooted it!!!!!!! That SHE knows HE who squeaked it, is a.k.a. HE who cheeked it!!!!! Treacherously, much was “aired-out” during the couples’ competition!!!!
Alas, starting this weekend, Diane will be undergoing detoxification from a serious condition known as “Rotary Club President Power Withdrawal Syndrome” by spending a week on beautiful, breathtaking Balboa Island. It is a rough life, but somebody has to do it! Right, Diane?! Have fun during your week of “treatment”!!!!
ELECTION RESULTS are in; GREGG TOWNSEND is PRESIDENT-ELECT
Club members had a tough choice to make on Tuesday during the election of President-Elect…to vote for Brian Mishlove or for Gregg Townsend, two outstanding candidates, both with visionary platforms, for the position of President-Elect. After counting the ballots, FY 2012 President Jim Cady wholeheartedly congratulated Gregg! The members congratulate you, too, Gregg!
Jim Cady went on to state that Brad holds a key role as a member of the Club’s Board of Directors for the upcoming year, and Jim said he wants Brad to chair the membership committee! I think that is an offer Brad can’t refuse!!! Yay, Brad!
SUMMERLIN PATRIOTIC PARADE: T-SHIRTS ORDERED FOR 31 PATRIOTS!
Dennis Filangeri reported that THIRTY-ONE people will join together to do a bang-up job on July 4 anchoring Red, White and Blue balloons during the Summerlin Patriotic Parade that commences at 9:00 a.m. Dennis recruited a handful of Rotarians from the West and Fremont Clubs and rallied many of our Club members and their families to participate. Every balloonist earns our Club $30 that will go toward reaching our Polio Plus goal for FY2012. Dennis has once again upheld our Club’s good reputation with the parade committee. Great job to all compatriots!!! No need to feel deflated after the parade because celebration times continue! Join Judith and Dennis at their home for a back-yard cook-out at 10029 Arbuckle Dr, LV 89134!

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE POSTCARD PROJECT—help tell America’s story!
Jim Cady collected Las Vegas-area postcards from several members who responded to Jim’s email on June 23 to members. Saige Sheets, a 15-year old from St. Joseph, Missouri is traveling to France this summer as part of Rotary International's Summer Youth Exchange Program, and when she returns, French teen Daria will travel with Saige and stay with her family for 3 weeks. The Sheets family is gathering postcards from coast to coast across our Great Land, so that Daria will be exposed to not only The Show-me State, but through a picture-tour, to many, many exciting American cities, towns and attractions. Jim Cady asked members to bring post cards to him on July 12, and he will send the postcards to the Sheets family. One member added “What happens in Las Vegas ends up on a postcard!” There is one in every crowd!!!
FLUTIST TRIONFO IS MAKING NAME FOR HIMSELF NATIONALLY
Las Vegas Academy high school sophomore Anthony Trionfo is earning national accolades and recognition as a phenomenal flute player. Hal Weller, Founding Music Director and Conductor Laureate of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Founder of the Foundation to Assist Young Musicians (FAYM) introduced Anthony. Famous music Mecca, the Interlochen Arts Academy (near Traverse City, MI), awarded the 15-year-old flutist a $39,000 scholarship, its largest scholarship amount ever, covering nearly all costs to enable the teen to enroll in its class of 2013. Hal Weller spoke highly of Anthony, saying this amazing young man, a member of FAYM, has been raised by a single mother. His talent has been acclaimed by many prominent national and international musicians.
On Tuesday Anthony played a lively Chinese-styled piece written by a French composer (no joke!). This newsletter writer could not catch all things to report about Anthony, but our Club does need to tuck-away Hal’s suggestion that this young man is going places, SO REMEMBER HIS NAME, and that our Club could possibly have a shoe-in winner for the Dan Stover Music Contest at the 2012 District 5300 Conference! Find Anthony on YOUTUBE by clicking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS40XmUhd6s.
FAYM’s mission encourages and supports gifted young musicians in early training, advanced study, and professional career development, specifically those who are in need of financial and/or mentoring support up to the age of 26. In addition, its mission has expanded in scope to include innovative new programs for children from needy families to receive music education, at which time, Hal Weller thanked the Club for its support of FAYM summer music programs for children who could otherwise not afford programs. We also received an update from Arturo Ochoa, program coordinator of FAYM’s “Violins for Kids” program.
