Plans for community
service for this Rotary year - Some of what we do will be
repeated from last year, we plan to paint SafeNest boxes again
this year. Something new will be volunteering at the Magical
Forest at Opportunity Village. Other projects being evaluated
include building a visiting place at McCarran airport for
those in uniform, and building a facility at Angel Park, in
conjunction with the city of Las Vegas, so that more children
may be taught to play golf (Our involvement will insure that
disadvantaged children will receive time there without cost to
them). Yet other projects will be evaluated as they are made
known to us. We are versatile since need is not often
predictable. Our cash donations this year will again be
proposed to the board based on the input from each member of
the club.

The big highlight of our club board
meeting on December 8 was the drawing to determine the
winners of our first annual wine raffle. The
tickets for the drawing were in a large attractively
wrapped box. The box was passed around for shaking
by everyone who was present. Then, the third prize
winner of 15 bottles of wine was drawn. This went
to Bill Brizze whose ticket was sold by Jim White.
Second prize of 25 bottles went to Mark Hinueber; Lynn
Mosier sold him his ticket. Finally the first
prize of 60 bottles went to Bob Jack; his ticket was
sold to him by his wife, Jane
Armstrong. There were many other
highlights, not the least of which was the three very
large pizzas from Rosati's that were consumed by the
attendees. Jane Armstrong had resigned from
the club recently because a change in her work schedule
would not allow her to attend meetings at this
time. However, she requested and the board
approved changing her status to Leave of Absence.
Susan Cooper reported that the Affair to
Remember(sm) (TA2R) has recommended that our "hook" for
the event be "Power Packs for Success." These
would be backpacks filled with school supplies to be
distributed to low income students. The board
approved of this as our theme for TA2R. A separate
committee will be appointed to implement this. The
location for TA2R remains to be finally
determined. However, it has been decided that it
will not be the World Market Center. The date for
the event is tentatively May 7, 2010.
District 5300 Rotary Clubs are being asked
to provide Hospitality Suites for the June 10-13
District Conference at the Green Valley Ranch. The
board decided that we will book a suite subject to
getting two other Rotary Clubs from our area to partner
with us. Community Service Chair Paul
Workman briefed the board on some possible community
service projects. Judith Filangeri requested that
the Community Service Committee seek out some hands-on
community service projects for our club to
pursue. International Service
Chair Edmee Marcek brought the Thailand Water Project up
for further discussion by the board. The board
voted that the club transfer $4,000.00 to the Las Vegas
Northwest Rotary Foundation with the recommendation that
the foundation fund the remaining $3,900.00 needed to
carry out the project. The Arcadia, California,
Rotary Club has the lead on this Matching Grant
project. They are working with a Rotary Club in
Thailand. For us to succeed in carrying out
our many projects we need to remember that The Future of
Rotary is in Your Hands. |

significant decisions, including the decision not to

considering The Summit in Sun City and TPC. The date
we're aiming for is May 7th. The committee will
also be presenting Power Packs for Success to the board

Wine Raffle Winners -
Congratulations to the 3 winners of our first annual
Wine Raffle!! First prize of 60 Bottles (including the
Marilyn Merlot, valued at over $700) was Bob Jack,
(ticket sold by Jane Armstrong). Second prize of 25
bottles was Mark Hinueber (ticket sold by Lynn Mosier).
Third prize of 15 bottles was Bill Brizze (sold by Jim
White). Thanks to all our club members
for your contributions of wine and your efforts selling
raffle tickets. MAJOR thanks to Ken Coonrad and
Lynn Mosier, who've pulled off a significant coup and
filled the Foundation coffers left somewhat empty by
last year's TA2R meager success. The biggest winner was
the Las Vegas Northwest Rotary Foundation, since we
cleared close to $7,000.

reported that Spencer worked his magic at Ronzone with
his presentation on leadership and followership.
All members are encouraged to participate, either by
giving a presentation or just by attending one of the
Kideract sessions. Service Sign Up

If you missed signing up, please see
Lynn. Raffle Winner! -

Foundation by Wednesday, 6 January 2010. Allow

line.
