    Last Week's Program

Child Soldier or Child Scholar: Choose Your Neighbor: Jonathan Warren spoke about cross-border financing of child terrorist training schools in areas such as Africa and Afghanistan. Africa, he noted, has millions of AIDS-created orphans with no hope and nothing to do, making them prime targets for training as child soldiers. His commitment is to promote secular schools for these children. He emphasized that not tying these schools to a particular religion improves the schools' chances of acceptance in the various communities. He made the point that we need to take notice of this because in our shrinking world, Africa is now our backyard!

    Avenues of Service

Advertising Opportunity - We are now taking orders for advertising on our club website and e- newsletter for Jul-Sep 2007. A 200X200 ad costs just $50 and a 200X100 ad costs just $35 per quarter. Free design and customization is available. If you would like to sign up for one or more quarters, click here to visit our adstore and complete the form, or email or call Dennis at webmaster@lvnwrotary.org, 756-2242. Advertising on our site helps defray the costs of our website and newsletter, but more importantly, it says that your business supports Rotary. Our hits and circulation increase every month and we have an overall average open rate over 55% compared to 37% for other sites. It's a good deal-do it.

Membership - How does someone "get into Rotary?" Rotary Membership is by invitation only. We are looking for people that embody the ageless Rotary theme of "Service Above Self," new Rotarians, not just new members.

Membership Chairman Darrell Cavanaugh describes the basic process we will be using to manage our membership program: (click here to find out what he has to say.)

    Rotary Information

Hosts Sought for Visiting Rotarians - Dennis Filangeri, a member of Rotary's International Travel & Hosting Fellowship, was contacted by a Rotarian couple coming to Vegas after the International Conference in Salt Lake City. They'd like to stay at a Rotarian home if possible. Dennis offered to host volunteer hosts for dinner for the visitors since he can't put them up himself. Please let him know.

Drivers Sought for GSE Team Visit - Wenlee is looking for drivers willing to transport some of the visiting GSE team members to and from various locations on April 22. Please let her know if you can help.

Applying the Four Way Test - Ethics 101: Did you enjoy Michael Flint's program on applying the Four Way Test? The Rotarian is introducing a new column to help Rotarians navigate ethical dilemmas similar to the ones he shared with us. Have you experienced a problem without a black or white answer? They're soliciting experiences. Check it out.

Rotary Youth Exchange - Incoming Governor Charlie Barr is looking to place two incoming Rotary Youth Exchange visitors. The students are here for a year. They're placed in a minimum of two homes for each student and the homes need to be in the same school district. For more information, click here.
