Nigeria Revisited: In his long career in education,
Dennis Ortwein has done a number of interesting and unusual
things. About 40 years ago (late ‘60s) he and his young family
went to Nigeria in a government exchange program to help set
up a teacher training program. He shared some of those
experiences with us.

| President's Message |
“We are here on earth and we are here to stay during our
respectively allotted periods. How much of happiness and how
much of misery shall be our share remains with us almost
entirely to determine. If we possess a modicum of reason, it
will be apparent to us that it is the part of wisdom to
cheerfully make the best of the situation and to harmonize our
own lives with nature's inexorable laws. We are entitled to
the maximum of happiness; and may we be sane enough to observe
that the route to a life full of happiness does not lie in
intemperate indulgence. We need and the world needs an
optimistic, rational philosophy of life." “The Distance
Self” by Paul P Harris – The Rotarian, February 1914

Spring Fest: Jim, Neil and Angela did
a fabulous job on this year’s Spring Fest. NALA was especially
supportive, purchasing 2 tables (20 people). The Interact Club
members helped keep things flowing smoothly – and looked
fabulous. Jim gave a preliminary report, noting that we were
likely to clear about $31,000.
Proposed for Membership: Ted Dake, of Nevada
Commercial Bank, proposed by Larry Brown. Margaret Tang, of
Sierra Healthcare, proposed by Frank Kautzmann. Colleen
O’Neill, of O’Neill Printing, proposed by Dennis
Filangeri. If you have any questions, please email Darrell
or Jim.
April is Magazine Month: In April, we recognize
Rotary's 31 official magazines and the important role they
play in disseminating information about Rotary worldwide. Read
articles from The Rotarian here
and look for selections from other magazines throughout
this month.
