    Last Week's Program
    Contestants

    Four Way Test Speech Contest

Heather Romans, Alyxandra Press, Paige Irwin, and Angel John from Palo Verde High School competed in this elimination round of the Rotary Four Way Test Speech Contest. The aim was to tie the Four Way Test to this year's Rotary Theme, Lead the Way.

While all four contestants hit the mark and made very good presentations, there could be only one winner. The judges awarded the prize to Paige Irwin for her speech which focused on "Collaboration, Service, and Integrity" as key elements to lead the way in applying the Four way test. Paige will go on to the next round at the District Conference.

Ronzone Mini Grants Dr. Cathy Conger and teachers from Ronzone came to thank us for their mini grants and tell us how the money was put to good use. The grants were used to provide transportation for students to visit CCSN, for books and magazines, and for a computer assisted learning program called Storyworks.

    Visiting Rotarians and Guests

Tim Walsh, Verona Sutton-Dunn, Dr. Cathy Conger, Jaime Witte, Donna Carlisle, and Lisa Willams from Ronzone Elementary School.
Christopher Carson, Attorney, guest of Michael Flint.

    President's Message
    Pres Cliff

We celebrate February 23, 1905, as the birthday of Rotary. With equal propriety we might celebrate the date of the renaissance. What would there have been to celebrate in Chicago today had it not been for the new birth, the renaissance? By its virtue friendly men and women of many nations have been gathered together in Chicago in the spirit of "Peace on earth, good will toward all men."
Paul P Harris address to the RI Convention, Chicago 1930

As of this past Friday, the Rotary “Renaissance” is officially 102 years old.

    Avenues of Service
    Crawfish Boil

Club Service: "Pinch the tail and suck the head—Aieeee!"This past month's Fireside Chat was a Mardi Gras themed crawfish boil at the Filangeris. We think everyone had a good time but modesty forbids our going into detail.

Punitaqui: Edmee received pictures from Punitaqui, Chile. They were taken during the Christmas party for the very needy families. Gifts were also given to the children of these families, as well as a basket of groceries to the families. This was all made possible by the money we collected during our holiday party at the Marcek's home. [Ed Note—other pictures will be posted on the website in the scrapbook later].

    Rotary Information

Nobel Peace Prize: The Rotary Foundation has been short-listed for the prestigious Nobel Peace prize. Even today, the same beliefs that four men once shared in a Chicago office, that transcended country and continent, is as relevant today and recognized as such.
