GSE Team: Gene Hernandez, who led the district’s GSE
team to Central Europe, gave a high- energy, enjoyable
presentation on his team’s travels to District 1910 (Eastern
Austria, Hungary, Bosnia, Slovenia, and Croatia).
In his view, a primary function of the out-going
GSE team is to serve as ambassadors of this country. Too
often, the world's view of Americans comes from our exported
TV shows and movies (a scary concept).
[Ed. Note: Gene's program brought back fond memories of
this editor's GSE experiences to SW Germany—I'm getting ready
to repack my bags].
Paul Harris Fellow District Governor
Elect Charles Barr presented Brett Kanwetz with his membership
in the Paul Harris Fellowship.
The Paul Harris Fellowship is recognition of individuals
who have donated (or who have had a donation made on their
behalf of) $1,000 or more to The Rotary Foundation. Click here for more information about the Rotary
Foundation.
[Ed. Note: What a terrific Valentine's Day gift
idea!]

| President's Message |
"I think that Rotary's fundamental purpose will be with
business; that civic and charitable activities should not be
discouraged, but should be given secondary consideration, not
because of any lack of importance, but because there are
specialized organizations to take care of their needs. Civic
and charitable activities seem to me by products." Paul P.
Harris in a message to a business round table at the 1916
convention in Cincinnati.

Why Should I Go to the Meeting? by Judith
Filangeri
Was this week’s Rotary meeting the best use of my time?
Every member asks that every week, consciously or
sub-consciously. And if the answer isn’t yes most of the time,
there’s the danger that the club will lose that member. People
join Rotary for many reasons, but they attend meetings - and
stay in Rotary—only if ...

District 5300 Conference
Bulletin Susan Hayek has released information about
sponsoring the Program and Tribute Book for the 2007
District Conference. The deadline for submissions is April 1,
2007. This is a great way to support our District and get some
advertising as well. Click here for more information.
International Assembly: The International
Assembly, which was held in San Diego last week, educates,
motivates, and inspires district governors- elect to lead
their districts. Through plenary sessions, group discussion
sessions, and fellowship activities, future governors get
hands-on information they will need for the coming year. This
training meeting features speeches by the RI president-elect,
Rotary Foundation chair-elect, and other Rotary senior
leaders, such as past RI presidents and current RI directors,
past chairs of The Rotary Foundation, and others who share
their knowledge and experience. Participants exchange
information and ideas with other governors-elect from around
the world in group discussion sessions, creating bonds that
foster future projects and a lifetime of friendship and
fellowship. For details of the conference, click here.
