| President's Message |
I'm excited to report that the International Service
committee is moving forward with some really great club
projects, including the following.
A home for 45 orphaned girls needs to be rebuilt in Costa
Rica at a cost of $10,000. Our club will contribute $1,000 of
this, with the Saint John’s Foundation coordinating collection
and distribution of project funds.
You know we have close ties to the Punitaqui Club. The
Punitaqui Club has invited the members of their Women’s
Auxiliary to become full members of the Rotary Club. We are
contributing $530.00 towards the Punitaqui Club’s project to
build a cistern for five families with no water. Also
donations made at our holiday party will be sent to the
Punitaqui club to allow children to purchase baskets of food
for needy families in the area.
A Rotoract Club in Kenya began an AIDS education program in
2002, with the help of various European clubs. Our club is
contributing $1,000 towards developing additional materials.
Angela Brooks will seek out contributions from other local
clubs to help reach their goal of $2,000.

NALA: IMMEDIATE
HELP NEEDED CLICK HERE Paul Wexler reports that
Glenda has met with the Clark County Health Department to find
out what we need to do to get the play ground open. Tom
Anderson has completed the preliminary proposal for the
landscaping; and there are other issues pertaining to new
equipment, walls extensions and gates etc. NALA has also
developed an extensive wish list which has been posted on
their website. Click
here.
Thank You From Frank Devlyn: International Services
Director, Karen Whisenhunt, Rotary Club of Las Vegas,
forwarded an email from Frank Devlyn, thanking participants
for participating in the Rotary Booth at the American Academy
of Ophthalmology Meeting. Judith and Dennis Filangeri
represented our club. For
the full text, click here.
Halloween at NALA On October 31,
Halloween, club member, Paul Wexler and his wife Sally, were
asked to help judge the Halloween contest at the NALA
Pre-School. Also judging was Attorney General-elect Catherine
Cortez Masto along with NALA staff and board members. The
children were incredible. Almost everyone had their costume.
For the children who could not afford a costume, their
teachers painted their faces to look like scary characters so
that every child could participate. Click
Here--the pictures tell the story.
