This Week: November 7 The Rotary Foundation with speaker Dave Cabral

Next Week: November 14 Literacy with speaker Carlos Campos, Dean of Arts & Letters at CCSN

RotoHackers is planning it's next outing for November 17, Friday AM. If you need a pleasant diversion from the the daily bump and grind, contact Joe Germain.

    Last Week's Program

Robin Jay, author of The Art of the Business Lunch, spoke on the importance of establishing business relationships where the keynote is trust. She believes the best way to do that is to break bread with your customers, whether that’s bringing bagels when you visit or, even better, taking the customer out for a meal. Of course, dressing appropriately and choosing the right restaurant are absolutely vital (also not flossing your teeth at the table - YUCK!). But her primary point is to make your customer into your friend because people do business with friends.

    Visiting Rotarians and Guests
    Empty Chair

There's no fellowship in an empty chair.
Your guests and visiting Rotarians help kindle the flame of fellowship

Judith Filangeri came as the guest of Dennis of the same name.
Guy Lynch, Guest of Bob Beers
Betty Mirich, visiting Rotarians from Las Vegas North.

    President's Message
    Pres Cliff

"Only if in each nation an informed public opinion actively works for peace can we avoid the international anarchy that would spell the end of civilization as we know it." PRIP (1946-47) Richard C Hedke 'Let Rotary Speed the Action', The Rotarian July 1946

Change in staff: Edmee will be taking over as International Director replacing Frank who had to step down.

    Membership

Rotary fellowship plays an important part in the Rotary world community. Rotarians love to visit other Rotary Clubs using the guise as "making-up" for a missed meeting. But if the truth be know (Test #1), Rotarians "make-up" because it's fun and they know they are welcome at any Rotary Club meeting anywhere in the world as attested to by the banner exchange.

Anniversary Party: Don't forget the anniversary party on November 10th and also don't forget to invite potential new members.

    Rotary Information

In the "Will It Be Beneficial To All Concerned" Category: Bobby G mentioned that there's been a heck of an increase in shopping center parking lot robberies, particularly of unaccompanied women. That's days as well as evenings. He suggested we really take a look at what's in our wallet and pare it down to a minimum ID and ONE credit card. A word to the wise.

Betty Mirich announced a fundraiser opportunity:
The North Las Vegas Rotary Club is entering their forth year doing the Aviation Nation Air Show. We volunteer to sell tickets to take the bus to the base as well as selling the programs for the show. We get paid to our club and any other club that helps out, $10.00 per hour for our services. If you have any other question please give me a call at 461-4736.

Past RI President, Frank Develyn sent a message: Please Continue to Lead The Way in Creating Awareness & Taking Action in Helping Rotary to Change With the Times...

The November, 2006, District Newsletter, THE HIGHLIGHTER, is posted on the District 5300 web site. See link at right.

November is Rotary Foundation Month: The Rotary Foundation is one of the best "bang for your buck" charitable donations you can make. Dave Cabral will speak more on this at his week's meeting.
