    Last Week's Program

Our planned speaker, Jerry Simon, Gang Specialist with the Gang Task Force Department of Juvenile Justice Services, had a flight delay and will be rescheduled later this year. In his place, we had 3 Craft Talks.

Michael Flint left IBM 20 years ago to start Sweet Success, which trains non-sales people to sell. Sweet Success works with folks such as lawyers and other professionals who have discovered that just hanging up your shingle doesn’t bring in enough business Sweet Success gives them training in successful marketing – and in how to accept “no” with minimal pain.

Eric Tarbox works with the Boy Scouts, having moved up to the Finance Department. He’s just returned from an unexpected but enjoyable stint as administrative director of the summer camp operation at Spencer Kimball Scout Reservation on Mount Potosi. The business of scouting is competitive and well organized, making Eric well suited to the profession.

Paul Workman’s BA is in Communications and Public Relations. He took a summer job in a bank and the rest is history, 31 years of banking history. Paul has just joined the Business Bank of Nevada as Executive VP and Director of Sales. His career demonstrates a commitment to outreach and service.

    Visiting Rotarians and Guests
    Empty Chair

There's no fellowship in an empty chair.
Your guests and visiting Rotarians help kindle the flame of fellowship

Judith Filangeri came as a guest of Dennis Filangeri.

    President's Message
    Pres Cliff

I want to thank Dennis Filangeri, Dennis Ortwein, John Krakauer, and Paul Wexler for preparing and submitting a grant proposal to the Don W. Reynolds Foundation. This education grant will benefit the children of Ronzone Elementary School. In true Rotary fashion, you dedicated your time, skills and energy towards a great cause. Good work gentlemen!

Bill Ballou, PDG of District 5630, Nebraska, suggests inviting your favorite "clergy person" to a Rotary meeting. He tells a story of sacrifice and Service Above Self that's worth reading. Click here for complete article.

    Rotary Information-Community Service Opportunity
    NALA

NALA (National Association for Latin Americans) provides pre-school and daycare services for parents who need a safe place to leave their children while they are working. The center provides an educational curriculum as well as healthy meals made on-site. Students are separated by age and each classroom has a teacher and a grandmother assistant. Parents can feel secure that their children are in a caring and loving place while they work to support their families. Most students are by-lingual and reading at level by the time they graduate to first grade. NALA has been quietly serving the community for over 30 years, yet few Las Vegans even know that such a facility exists. It is located at 323 N. Maryland Parkway not far from the Cashman Center.

On Tuesday, August 29, at 7:00 am, in lieu of our regular meeting at TPC, NALA will sponsor a breakfast meeting and a tour of their facility. They would like our club to help them to upgrade their playground. This is an opportunity for our club to participate in a “hands on” project that will affect the lives of 250 children for many years to come. All members and their guests are invited.
